I wonder if it’s the same bear who went to the zoo the other day.

I guess he heard Trader Joe’s was a …
…wait for it…
bear market.
The swamp where I volunteer has an area that is fenced in to protect plants and trees from deer. The fence is plastic. Bear will sometimes pull the fence down and enter. It looks like that happened about a week ago. Fence was ripped and there was fresh bear poop where we were working,
It is probably still in the protected area since it is loaded with skunk cabbage - one of their favorite foods.
I am not enthusiastic about working there this Friday.
5 miles south of Morristown.

hopefully there’s a great opportunity for monarch butterflies to fill in this summer. Such a peaceful place.
Well in addition to the woods, they like to do this in front yards, too. Oddly enough, the door bell canners didn’t pick it up. Gracie was not amused.

Saw someone mention this sighting in South Mountain Reservation.
I would not particularly like seeing this. I know black bears aren’t particularly aggressive, and you can usually scare them off. But not having a place to seek shelter would make me anxious!
Yeah they're pretty timid but you never know. Not sure what compels one to show up in a town around here every few years. It's a pretty long walk through suburbs and streets from nearest green space that supports a bear population. I think the closest is the Great Swamp. Maybe 15 miles in a straight line?
Was visiting someone in an apartment complex on the Dover/Rockaway border. Maybe 1/2 mile from Route 10. Went to take trash to the Dumpster and a neighbor warned me there was a bear poking around there, and not a small one. Ummm? No, thank you.
The bear hasn’t left area based on the appearance of new by products in our front yard… Be careful out there
Bears are a growing problem in Japan, so much so they now have bear drills in schools.

Millburn FD looked to have it sorted though.
