I finally managed to talk my high school son into some help last year. We actually ended up with better help online. It's $90 for an hour, every week, which is far less expensive than most options if it works for you, and he's able to keep up the meetings now that he is in college. He says it helps, but of course I respect the idea that what he says there stays there. I only know what he chooses to share.
I was thinking that it might be easier to have virtual sessions, partly just to get over the hump of starting counseling. Easier and less formal than going in person and being in a strange/formal setting. Although there are definitely benefits to being in person.
My high schooler has depression and anxiety, and wanted in-person therapy. They have seen 4 different therapists in the area (my kiddo is particular, and it's also challenging to to find a therapist that has availability who is also a good fit).
Started off with talk-therapy, then ended up moving into medication (which required adding a psychiatrist to the mix).
Not sure I have any recommendations or advice really. It's been a lot of trial-and-error for us.
just here to commend the parents who are taking these issues seriously and following up, ain't easy
Has anyone worked with Peter Hardell in South Orange? TIA, feel free to PM me
Highly recommend Dr. Kate Gruenwald Pfeifer in Springfield. Was an immense help to our child growing up during a pandemic and then transitioning to college.
****You are a great parent to address this, rather than dismiss! Good luck!

Thank you!
My son was the same way sophomore year, anxiety got progressively worse. we tried Manhattan Mental Health Counseling and honestly the virtual format was key, he'd never have kept up with in-person appointments. they're pretty good with teen anxiety specifically. took maybe 2-3 sessions before he actually started opening up but it's been helpful.

Looking for recommendations and experience with teen counseling for anxiety. Specifically a female 9th grader. Been noticing it increasing over the past couple of years, and I think we're now at a point to seek help.
