sad to see you go.
This morning I saw a Frontline episode on the Obama Presidency. As I watched footage of the angry, unhinged, grossly misinformed white voters yammering about evil Obama, socialized medicine and death panels, I realized I was watching the genesis of the Trump voter.
GOP Man, it's been a long time coming.
GOP man, sorry to see you go. But it still seems possible to satirize even the most ludicrous Trump behaviors, as witness Alec Baldwin, and some of the others on SNL last night. So, I hope that you recover, get a second wind and join the fray.
GOP man - I agree it's very difficult to satirize an administration that is making a mockery of the executive branch as well as ruining our reputation in the global community.
Thanks for your contributions. I always appreciated them, and I completely understand your decision.
The link below is not intended as a rebuke to the OP. Or to posters who are convinced that this point in the republic is different. It simply reminded me of my Yorkville-bred, Norman-Thomas-or-Bust grandmother, who occasionally lamented in her last decades that she didn't know why anyone would want to bring a child into a world that was so screwed up. We'd remind her that my father, her son, was born in 1937.
I also saw it as a token of hope that minds can change.
noooooo.
here on MOL we need good satire.
seriously theres nothing more important than a good piece of satire even when reality is satire.
The combination of Trump, twitter, alternative facts, and the absolute evil behind the thrown, all lead to the need to be able to laugh at these horrible horrible people.
Thank you for the link. I had completely forgotten I wrote that stuff. It was pretty good ;-)

I give up for real this time.
Back in the W Bush days it was all fun and games, mocking the MOL cons and the idiotic arguments being put forth by the GOP, Fox News and the rest of the right wing noise machine.
Now it feels like bringing it back would be like trying to make the SS and the Gestapo seem wacky and endearing,
It's not funny any more, and I doubt I can make it so. Yeah, Hogan's Heroes was able to make Nazis seem funny, but that was 20 years later, not while the atrocities were unfolding.
so long America, it was nice while it lasted.

you can become hysterical like the rest of us..

It's all fun and games until Trump gets elected.
Used to do the same, GOP_Man. A major reason I faded away from MOL, where I used to attempt to write humorous thread titles.
A couple of things cleared up for me during the DJT Era: GOPers want to keep their jobs above all - country, dignity, etc., despite being the only force capable of stopping this insanity. Capitalism/accruing wealth is the bottom line and there are no forces capable of thwarting a Trump-style movement based on fear of losing money or getting killed by misguided right-wing militias who think their problems will be fixed by ridding the country of us lefties. Granted, it's a western world-wide movement to the right but our great weakness is our system.

I've been a member of MOL for over a decade. When I first started, the intent was to poke some satirical fun at the mendacity of the Bush Administration, as well as to highlight the absurd logic behind the arguments put forth in right wing media. Of course, the arguments of Rush, Hannity, Fox News, NRO as well as MOL's right wingers were themselves so ridiculous that many people took my posts seriously. No doubt is was difficult to discern the difference between a Jonah Goldberg column and satire.
Over the past several years my contributions here have been less and less frequent. It's hard to parody a POV that has become increasingly detached from the reality outside the right wing bubble. Sarah Palin? Really? Satire seemed redundant.
But now finally, after more than 10 years posting, I give up. After the election of Donald Trump how does one even attempt to do satire? We elected the guy who said "You're fired!" to Gary Busey on a stupid reality TV show. Now we have alternative facts and a White House press secretary telling us not to believe things we saw with our own eyes. I can't do better than that.
Not too mention how hard it is to parody the more horrifying aspects of this administration. From crooked and incompetent cabinet picks, to poisoning waterways, to travel bans, to hissy fits with foreign leaders, there's a lot of stuff that's just too hard to make jokes about.
So there you have it. I give up. Donald Trump, you've defeated me. You've made it impossible to come up with anything more stupid, absurd or crazy than the things you and your advisors do every day. So long MOL.
