MaryAnn from the Chelsea Set/Victory Salon (fka Staynd Color)

Hello all - I know that MaryAnn (Mare) has been a fixture in Maplewood Center since she went to work at the Chelsea Set in the late 80's when it was still on Baker Street.  If you don't know her from there, you might know her from St. James Gate, or from CHS 86, so MJH or Seth Boyden.

She's has a horrific medical event and there is a gofundme for her:  https://gofund.me/8b1b5619

edited to fix link

So sorry to hear the news - thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for letting us know.  Wishing her a speedy and complete recovery.

From the GoFundMe updates:

  • Yesterdayby alma Shandra, Organizer: Good evening, everyone. Here is the latest update on Mare. Following her surgery, s he underwent a period of rest, and today she is demonstrating signs of improvement. She has already engaged in walking, taking a step or two. Additionally, her appetite has shown positive progress. Plans are being discussed to transition her to a rehabilitation center, likely next week. I will provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available. Thank you all for your unwavering support.
  • January 13th, 2025by alma Shandra, Organizer - GOOD afternoon
Forgive me for the technical error in the previous update. I am pleased to inform you that the surgery for Mare went smoothly, albeit earlier than anticipated. Her sister stood by her side, offering unwavering support throughout. Mares is now out of surgery and in stable condition. We are immensely thankful for the outpouring of prayers and support during this challenging time. I will provide further updates on the next steps shortly.
  • January 12th, 2025by alma Shandra, Organizer - We are immensely grateful for the outpouring of support and prayers from this remarkable community. I had a visit the Mare this afternoon, and I am happy to report that she is in a much-improved condition compared to last week. Her vitals are stable, and she has the comfort of a private room. Although she is understandably nervous about the upcoming surgery, I told her we are all united in sending our prayers for strength and well-being. We also hold in our hearts hope for the skillful hands of the medical team during the procedure. Mare expresses her heartfelt love and gratitude to everyone. Her family will provide updates following the surgery tomorrow. Thank you sincerely for your continued support and prayers; this community's solidarity is truly inspiring.
  • January 10th, 2025by alma Shandra, Organizer - Good evening. Just a quick update: Mare is slowly making progress. She was able to sit in a chair for a bit and took her first few steps with the walker today. The IV has been helpful, and so are your prayers and support. I will be visiting her on Sunday and will provide an update then. Thank you all.
  • January 9th, 2025by alma Shandra, Organizer - Hello again and thank you all for your support, prayers, and kindness.
I have some good news to share. I had a nice visit with Mare and her sister today and after receiving an IV she was in much better shape and spirit. She was able to talk more and is so grateful for all the well wishes and kind words that you all have shared. She says thank you and she loves us.
She had a decent enough appetite and I was able to give her a manicure and hand massage.
She told me that she had slipped on the ice that formed at the end of her driveway where the sump pump lets out.
Her aunt is working hard to get to the bottom of the Health Insurance situation and what to do next. We are hoping to know more as the days go on.
Her surgery is scheduled for this coming Monday at 11:30 am. After surgery and when she is stable enough she will be transported to Rehabilitation.
I will continue to update you as we learn more
    Be well and be safe.
  • January 8th, 2025by alma Shandra, Organizer - Thank you all so very much. Mare has seen all this support and smiled at us. WE ARE SO GRATEFUL.
Unfortunately, her surgery was moved to Monday due to the Neurosurgeon's schedule. They have stabilized her and she is as comfortable as possible. Although she can't talk much walk or even hold a pen the Doctors have said there should be much improvement after surgery.
We have also learned that Mare may have been involved with a scammy type of Health Insurance. Her family has been in contact with advocates and lawyers to help with this as well as making sure we have some coverage for her rehabilitation.
She is at Saint Barnabas in Livingston. some have asked if she can have visitors and Yes she can.
Thank you all so very much I will update as soon I can
  • January 7th, 2025by alma Shandra, Organizer - Thank you all for your generous support and concerns.
Update on Mare: Please continue to pray for her recovery. Situation with Mare is not good. The left side of her brain is pushing into the right, which is causing her decline today. Therefore, the upcoming surgery is crucial. We are aiming to have the surgery tomorrow, but it is more likely to take place on Thursday. Your continued support is deeply appreciated.

How is she doing?

responded in a separate comment with the details shared by the person organizing the GoFundMe.

I went to visit her on Friday -  it was, frankly, scary - a big piece of skull was removed creating a large divot in her head (that was put back on Monday), and she was demonstrably tired and very subdued, with hardly any appetite.
