I dare anyone to find one kind thing I have ever said about Melania so this is as close as I get. Her new book as well as a new video, states her unequivocal support for a woman's right to choose. Her video My body, my choice is on X. I listened to her statements on abortion rights on Morning Joe today. Of course there are plenty of comments speculating on the moment that she comes out to announce her support of Kamala Harris.

unless she leaves the Donald and becomes a Democrat this means next to nothing.

Well, to everyone, I agree with the sentiments. But. I hoped that those Republicans who liked her, women in particular, might have the courage to skip voting for Trump. Might they rationalize that if even his wife thinks any limits, even late term are not for the government to decide that he is not their guy? She goes so far as to argue that late term is extremely rare which is contrary to her husband's talking point.
I'm not suggesting we send her any Valentine's just saying it might sway the votes of those who feel this is their main issue.

Can I hang on to that small hope? No?
Whew, tough crowd.
Just hoping it will be heard by those who want T to take a hard line against abortion and turn them away from him. And not heard by those who've heard him waffling lately and like his new "moderate" line on this.
The views of the First Ladies have often been used to "soften" the image of their President husbands. Instead of seeing Mrs. Trump's statement as breaking with Donald, it's just as likely to be an attempt to "soften" (if that's possible) his image with undecideds who wonder if his position on abortion goes too far for them.
Writing it in her book might not make a big difference, but, the clip I saw of the video made me feel that she was trying to distance herself from his stance or cause a rift among the GOP. Forgiving late term abortion among the opposition is a line in the sand.
Again, she stood next to him, basked in the limelight, so I've never liked or excused her. And I posted that insensitive jacket stunt everywhere. Whatever her motives, it had to infuriate him, which is delightful. But her specific words about late term abortion cuts deep into the main GOP talking point and is a regular Trump argument.
More than any aspect of the abortion topic, the phrase "late term" raises the temperature in any argument and she is clear that it is rare and even at that the government has not right to tell a woman what to do with her body.

fair enough. I just assume everything she says is done in self-serving bad faith. But I haven't seen the clip you're referring to.
@Morganna, I’m reviving this thread because I can’t find the one you started when abortion rights were overturned. I’ve spent time today catching up on the news about the Wisconsin Republicans’ poorly worded bill that’s trying to redefine health care in relation to abortion. I don’t know whether to laugh hysterically, or cry in frustration:

Good grief! Just read the article. I'm interpreting it to mean, while they are leaning on the "do no harm" as a way to exclude abortion, there is the concern that whenever surgeries are performed, there is a risk of harm?
To answer the question of ‘do no harm’/(some other outcome), yes. I’m gathering from the short bits I’ve heard on news radio and what I’ve read that the aim of the new definition was to make it broad enough to cover any action taken that might have the effect of terminating a pregnancy. I’m not sure if allied health has been considered in depth, either; physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutrition/dietetics, aquatherapy and even dancercize/zumba could be just as problematic.
I mean, there are times I could easily slip and break bones, or knock myself out, or land awkwardly injuring my lower back or pelvis. It’s not my age, rather I’ve got long toes that affect my stepping. Thank goodness I’m not American and not likely to conceive, because my ‘mostly-sedentary cancer-survivor with other chronic conditions’ lifestyle makes me a risky breeder… eek!
I’m confused though. Is this bill for Wisconsin or for the nation, proposed by WI Congress-folk?
Looking at the only the very beginning of the linked article, it appears to be a bill before the Wyoming (not Wisconsin) state legislature. Didn't read far enough to see whether likely to pass.... Gut response: another **** example of people jumping in to legislate about things they're not well informed about. Anybody remember when "committees" took time to listen to pros and cons at "hearings"?
Thanks for the correction - was typing after 2:30am our time and really needed sleep. (It finally rained for a few hours - yay!) (I’ll nap after lunch)

At the end of the day, all she cares about is the money and the power.
If she really cared about women's rights, she would have spoken out during the campaign.

The book came out before the election so it surprised me that she was taking a stand back in October but here we are now and it seemed a convenient thread to comment on new developments.
