If you'd rather hear a different perspective, here is a Glenn Greenwald video that goes into detail about what USAID really does.
I watched most of that HCR video and I wrote a long response on a different thread. I won't repeat that here except to say that she makes misleading statements. For starters, she says USAID is in the State Department. It is now going to be moving into the State Department, but is currently operating independently. This is what allows USAId to hide some of it's activities. The funding for this CIA front was from the US and money from oligarchs.
Another thing that bothered me about this video was her euphoric description of USAID as a force for good in the world. The truth is that this agency was primarily for regime change operations. Even when they did nice things like dance parties or vaccination program--they would, at the same time, try to turn people against their government.
Moving it into the State Department it will shrink it's size, no longer take money from oligarchs and be more transparent. Might still be an evil organization.
Evo knew what Bolivia had to do to make itself a sovereign country.

how dare you post greenwald as counter to richardson.
it's absurd, but then so is everything else that's going on, which doesn't seem to disturb you in the silence.

I think Glenn Greenwald is brilliant, but clearly you have not watched the video because it was a discussion with Mike Benz. Here is one without Glenn Greenwald that came out today: Follow the money. . .

geezus,
even if they are a "criminal organization" how can your focus not be on what's happening to it and the way it's happening.
everything else pales in comparison. you people are truly grotesque.
all of you are abetting them. don't you see that? it makes you as criminal as they are.

They did a surprise audit on a criminal organization. I don't know if it was legal but if not there will be lawsuits and they will be found guilty.
The crimes committed by the agency need to be brought to light. Contrary to what you have said, they are using US taxpayer dollars.

no. the government does not use tax dollars to pay for anything. it doesn't work that way.
it'll be funny when Musk finds out that MMT is accurate. I wonder what he'll do.
as for them being found guilty of their most obvious and clear crimes - by who?
The DOJ?
Pam Biondi?
LMAO
this is how the coup works.
you really need to pay attention.

USAID uses tax dollars (and other money). It gets paid through the Treasury. The Treasury has the tax money. That's why they went to the Treasury.
This is not a coup. Trump was elected and Musk is operating at his command. It's a direct attack on the deep state. USAID is the heart of the deep state. Trump sent Musk in to tear out the heart and drag it to the State Department Cave where Rubio will be the new watch dog. They are also cleaning out certain FBI personal and maybe CIA too.
Russiagate has a hell of an ending. Shoot out at the OK corral.

again. MAGA thanks you for your support.
Most Wednesday mornings, I have coffee with a group of guys who had all lived in Maplewood and South Orange when we first met, but some have relocated since. However, our gathering is on Zoom (we're a bunch of boomers on Zoom), so we can still get together like that. This morning, one was talking about his niece and her husband, who met years ago in the Peace Corps, and for 20 years have lived abroad working on aid programs in Africa with USAID. They've been told to pack it up because of Trump and Elon (Obligatory boilerplate: acknowledging Musk's past and current role in the transition to an emissions-free world via Tesla and Tesla Energy) and whatever scheme they're running.
Which is just another reason why I'm disgusted by videos from slandering lowlife grifters who have discovered that badmouthing USAID is a new way to attract attention and donations from resentful, gullible people.
Nan apparently doesn’t understand that if the U.S. government wants to fund efforts to subvert foreign governments, it is going to happen. USAID has nothing to do with it. Ah, the mind of a two year old having a tantrum. Meanwhile good programs helping people have been disrupted.

I understand that perfectly and I have said so. But this is a huge shrinking of those projects and at least some sunlight into the sausage factory.

Did you hate what they were doing in Gaza before Putin condemned it this morning or were you waiting to find out how you were going to feel about it?
I am reminded of the mental gymnastics undertaken by American communists in 1939 and 1941 when Hitler signed his non aggression treaty with the USSR and then violated it in the most explicit way imaginable. There's a reason no one here takes you seriously.

These are negative things for sure, but he just shut down the CIAs biggest regime change organization, stopping some of the most atrocious actions of the US government. Never thought I would see that. Countless misery abandoned and lives saved. Maybe instead of mindlessly cutting and pasting and spamming from long ago, you could focus on what he is doing in his second term. There is lots to complain about but we were never going to get a USAID audit under Biden/Harris. They were cheerleaders for regime change.
