The Maplewood Strollers, the resident theater company of the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts in Maplewood, is extremely proud to present two-time Tony award-winning George C. Wolfe’s thought-provoking and heartfelt satire, ‘The Colored Museum.’ Through a series of 11 “exhibits” complete with music, Wolfe humorously explores the African American identity as it has commonly been represented within American culture. ‘The Colored Museum’ challenges these stereotypes and celebrates Black culture with humor and heart. Directed by South Orange resident
Victoria Lauture Duncker, ‘The Colored Museum’ offers a unique opportunity to engage with important cultural themes through the power of theater.
In an exciting collaboration, The Newark Museum of Art will showcase remarkable artworks by artists of color and from other underrepresented communities within The Burgdorff Center. Patrons can enjoy this curated display before the performance, enhancing the overall experience.
Don't miss this compelling production that combines humor, heart, and artistic excellence.
Show dates are March 14th , 15th , 21st , and 22nd at 8pm, as well as March 16th at 2pm.
All performances are at:
The Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts, 10 Durand Rd, in Maplewood.
The Maplewood Strollers are also gratefully seeking donations to help bring this vision to life – please visit http://www.thestrollers.org/fundraiser-for-the-colored-museum if you are able to help! For tickets and more info, please visit http://www.thestrollers.org
