I can't provide a free link to this article.  How Denmark’s Social Democrats Are Succeeding With Stricter Immigration Policies - The New York Times  Can anybody provide a free link?

The article examines the successive of the Social Democrats in Denmark at a time when right wing parties are making gains everywhere.  The article argues that Social Democrats or Democrats need to keep a very strong focus on progressive initiatives that tangibly benefit working people as opposed to Brahmin progressivism which often promotes initiatives that place a burden on the working classes.

Specifically, immigration is one such issue.  In Denmark, the Social Democrats have been very restrictive of immigration.  The article argues that center left progressives will fail if they don't restrict immigration.

I found the article compelling.  My position has been that Congress should pass immigration laws that determine the number of immigrants allowed to enter each year and that these laws should be enforced.  After reading this article, my feeling is that immigration needs to be more limited.

What I do know is that the Democratic Party needs to figure out how to more clearly be identify with working class progressive issues and less with Brahmin progressivism.  My guess is that Trump will provide such an opportunity for the Democrats to rise from the ashes.

Thanks Dave.  My comments on the article are not even a poor substitute for the article.

The problem with immigration, as I see it, and this is true around the world - is the UN 1951 Refugee Convention , (I just looked this up and I was surprised that it was so old. I can't find a more recent controlling treaty or convention.)

This allows anyone to make a case that they are emigrating under the protections of this treaty. They are not "illegals" in any sense of the word. They are exercising their rights.

Maybe the whole treaty needs to be re-visited for this more modern world.
